Character Information
Name: Judar
Series: Magi: Labyrinth of Magic
Appearance: What a jerk...
Age: 20
Canon Point: Manga, from chapter 260, right after he was launched into space- (Assume he somehow wound up getting punted into space and landing in the current setting.)
Canon History: Here.
Personality:
Though Judar usually has some sort of smile on his face, he should never be mistaken for a friend. He’s blunt, judgemental, and a mess of personality traits often associated with villains. At his core, he’s truly much more interested in pissing off people he dislikes than he is in supporting those he likes. He doesn’t apologize unless forced, doesn’t back down unless he grows bored, and doesn’t do feelings(so he says…). If it weren’t for his value as a magi Judar probably would have been kicked to the curb already.
His emotional volatility often consumes him entirely. He holds deep grudges for the organization who raised him, blaming them for the person he is, and for stealing his chance at a normal life. Often, when he feels any sort of strong emotion, he immediately lashes out with frustration and anger, both towards his previous guardians, and towards himself. He vents through self destructive and reckless behavior, and many of his failures in life are due to his own aggressive shortcomings. Anger is one of the only things he fully understands in regards to himself.
Yet, he refuses to let it bother him. Even though this choice often contradicts his actions and emotional expression, he’ll continue to claim apathy- provided he can do as he pleases. He is callous to the extreme, often disregarding the value of human life in favor or his own entertainment. He does not care about strangers, and barely cares for his allies, sans one or two exceptions. He will take advantage of any perceived emotional or physical weakness to torment and upset those around him. It’s difficult to say which is more destructive, a good mood or a bad one. Either way, If given the opportunity, he’s not opposed to cutting people down.
When relaxed, content, or simply contemplating his life, he can on occasion take a much more tame demeanor. During these moments he’s still something of a diva. Having lived an extremely spoiled lifestyle, he still isn’t fully used to doing things on his own or getting along with others. Previously, people either agreed with him, kept quiet, or faced injury. He will complain to no end if things do not go his way. In social settings where he is able to control his explosive personality, he is still bitter, arrogant, and bratty.
Overall, he’s probably someone best left alone; volatile is his middle name.
Abilities:
First and foremost, Judar, as a magi, can absorb and mapulate life energy from the world around him. As long as he has the physical strength and endurance to do so, he has an unlimited supply of magical energy at his grasp. That said, his ability to call upon magic relies heavily on food consumption. As a result, he metabolism is super human when he does make use of his powers, and abusing his skills when he’s unable to consume large quantities of food can and will cause permanent damage, and depending on how far he pushes himself, could lead to death. Generally, unless he’s showered with food, he is no more than a volatile average human with some cool abilities and another sense.
On that note, some types of magic are more instinctual and require less energy and less focus. He is primarily a water mage, specializing in ice magic. He can manipulate and shift water into any form if he can focus on it enough, and can even combine other types of magic to cast new spells. Common water combat spells for him include creating volleys of ice shards/daggers, freezing his opponents in large chunks of ice, creating an icy field across the ground, and sometimes, just using water itself as a fluid weapon. He can pull water from any source; bodies of water, the air itself, and even humans, though the latter is incredibly draining and even he isn’t usually cruel enough to make the attempt.
He can create small tornados and direct them, conjure lightning, and use small variants of heat magic to change the form of his spells, though despite all his practice, he still cannot use heat magic to spark a flame, and may never be able to, due to his primary understanding of water. Some combination spells include small ice tornados, invisibility and illusions(by manipulating heat and light over water), and freezing lightning.
Another of Judar’s specialties is gravity magic. If he has the strength, he can create the illusion of his own flight by manipulating the gravity and air around him. This, like water magic, comes incredibly naturally to him, but unlike his instinctual spells, requires a lot more energy the longer he uses it. Generally he saves this strictly for fights. On the same note, he can manipulate gravity to move others closer to or further from himself. Generally though, he just uses it on himself.
He does not ordinarily use his magic for mundane tasks and chores(although he can do things such as boil or cool water or summon objects from nearby with gravity magic), but he does use it to satisfy his own vanity. Most of the time, he uses wind magic to braid his abnormally long hair and keep the fibers separated and smooth, or water magic to do the same when he bathes. He also hides any facial blemish using water illusion magic. Both of these actions are ones he has performed since childhood, and no longer requires much energy to maintain. His hair will generally maintain its form even if he is unconscious.
In addition to using magic, he has what is called a ‘borg’, which is essentially a magic shield that protects him from non magical forces(fists, non magic weapons, sometimes it can take the brunt of impact damage, etc), but this is also dependant of his physical wellbeing. While it’s the most subconscious and effortless skill he possesses, if he is too weak or expends too much energy, he won’t be able to maintain it. Likewise, it shatters fairly easily against powerful magical attacks.
While water magic where he is from was primarily a healing art, there is no way he’ll ever be able to attain the focus and concern necessary to learn to heal injuries.
As far as physicality goes, he is literally useless without his magic. He’s flexible, and can do the splits, but he has less strength than a small child, and is often outrun by a princess in a formal dress. His maneuverability is a neat party trick, but with no actual combat use to back it up, offers little else.
...Also one time he teleported across a continent but it nearly killed him despite having just consumed a massive amount of food; if he attempted such a thing in this setting he would actually die.
Inventory:
Judar has the clothes on his body, a small wand which he uses to channel his magic, and a a spear which he can summon at will to use in close up fighting. Neither his wand nor his spear are entirely necessary for combat; he is quite proficient in ranged and close up magic. However, having one with him allows him to have more control and strength in his spells, and he generally only does menial tasks like adjusting water temperature or using magic to summon small objects wandless. Other than these objects, Judar is empty handed.

What’s more important: love or duty?
He puts on the most innocent expression he can muster and murmurs, “love, of course! True love is so important, humans just can’t function properly without it, and they’re so much stronger in the presence of loved ones!” He heaves in a dramatic sigh and shakes his head sadly. “Those who have never experienced love are such poor souls indeed. Oh- The tragedy!” He sinks to his knees, collapsing on the floor as he cries out, however, his theatrical monologue is quickly interrupted by loud, manic, and choked laughter. He rolls around, clutching pathetically at his abdomen as he struggles to breathe- It’s just too fucking funny.
“Oh my god-” He chokes, when he finally manages to find his words. “Love,” he sneers, “a perfect way to control those dumb enough to buy into friendship and family ties.” He fakes a gag. “Disgusting.”
What’s more important: the way others see you, or the way you see yourself?
“There’s no contest for that. Obviously the way I see myself is more important than how others do. Fuck whatever they think. I’m just gonna keep livin’ my life like I damn well please.” He shrugs, scratching the nails of his left hand into his right wrist. “Anyway, s’not like people ever disagree for long-” A wicked grin spreads over his face. “-They get punished if they’re wrong.”
Are you proud of where you are now in life?
“...I’ve come a long way,” he snaps. The question leaves him off guard, bitterness and irritation bubbling in his gut. He doesn’t want to think about his life in respects to a disgustingly optimistic question, but he can’t avoid it when asked directly. He curls his lip with disdain. He’s… Certainly made the best of his circumstances, and his life, looking back, isn’t bad-
So why is he suddenly so dismayed with nausea?
His limbs are shaking as he struggles to reign in his rage. He thinks of the parents he’d never met, of the childhood he’d had torn from his grasp before he even knew his name, and of the fucking normalcy thrown at him even after years of manipulated volatility. He hates it. But he’ll keep his pride as long as he can. “Yes.” He hisses, “Of fucking course I am. Why wouldn’t I be?”
But he knows it’s a lie.
How do you think you measure up compared to your peers?
Judar snorts at the ridiculousness. ”Assuming I have peers, tsk tsk…” He shakes a finger dramatically. “Peers generally refer to equals. There’s nobody in the entire country who can measure up to the strength and beauty of a magi-” He shrugs, cocking his head to the left. “...I’m strong, and anyone who thinks they’re at my level is gonna get put in their fuckin’ place.”
What kind of person do you find worthy of respect?
He purrs, “someone strong.” Not just physical strength, either. “Anyone willing to start a war and capable of finishing it… Oh- I’d definitely follow them. Possibly as an equal…” He pauses, stretching his arms above his head. “...But if they tried to overshadow me, I’d probably still kill them,” he sings, cheerfully.
What is your greatest ambition?
The question is so easy, he’s left trembling, laughter threatening overwhelm him. He thinks back to his childhood- To all the bullshit brainwashing they’d forced him through, to the isolation, to the life he never should have lived- His anger is maddening, but for once, he’s in complete control. "One day," he starts, words rolling of his tongue. "My king and I? We're gonna fuckin rule the world together. One country's not enough ya know... I'll make all who hurt us and stood in our way suffer the same misery, and someday, after the world burns, well revive it from its rotten ashes as ours."
Do you think things like politics and history are important to know about? Why or why not
He cocks his head to the side tapping his fingers idly against his gold clad forearms. "Mmm... Not particularly. S'not like people fuckin listen to past events when making decisions under pressure. Although..." He snickers, one brow raising in manic interest. "...I suppose history can be good for one thing. Let's you learn more ways to maim and slaughter your enemies!"
